Nagpakalunod sa ilog hanggang sa mamatay ang isang buntis na elepante matapos sumabog sa bibig nito ang pinya na nilagyan ng mga malalakas na paputok na inalok umano ng isang lalaki sa Silent Valley Forest sa Kerala, India.
"Her jaw was broken and she was unable to eat after she chewed the pineapple and it exploded in her mouth... It is certain that she was offered the pineapple filled with firecrackers to eliminate her," sabi ni Surendra Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden sa Press Trust of India (PTI) na inilathala ng The Tribune.
Sinabi ni Surendra Kumar na nasawi ang elepante sa Velliyar River sa Malappuram district noong Mayo 27. Buntis din daw ang naturang hayop, ayon sa ginawang post-mortem examination.
"I have directed the forest officials to nab the culprit. We will punish him for 'hunting' the elephant," saad niya.
Nalaman ng publiko ang trahedyang pagkamatay ng elepante nang i-post ito ni Mohan Krishnan, isang forest officer, sa kaniyang Facebook page.
"When we saw her she was standing in the river, with her head dipped in the water. She had a sixth sense that she was going to die. She took the Jalasamadhi in the river in a standing position," saad ni Krishnan, na naatasang dalhin ang elepante pabalik sa lupa.
Ang pakahulugan ng Jalasamadhi sa Marathi Dictionary sa English ay "freeing one's self from the troubles of life by drowning."
Nag-post din si Krishnan ng larawan ng elepante na nakatayo sa ilog.
Isinampa na ang First Information Report (FIR) sa ilalim ng Wildlife Protection Act laban sa mga hindi pa matukoy na tao. —LBG, GMA News
