Kabilang ang dalawang Pinoy sa mula sa United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) sa mga naging biktima ng kaguluhan sa Sunderland, England dahil sa nangyaring riot doon.
Sa ulat ng Mirror, sinabing papasok na sa trabaho ang dalawang Pinoy nurse nang maipit ang sinasakyan nilang taxi sa riot.
Pinagbabato umano ng mga nagra-riot ang sinasakyan nilang taxi na dahilan para makaramdam ng matinding takot ang dalawa.
Kinondena ng Philippine Nurses Association UK ang insidente, at iginiit na nagkakaisa sila sa paglaban sa racism.
“Our community has been an integral part of the NHS since 1969 and along with other Filipino Nurses' Associations based here in the UK, we are united against racism and will continue to support the Filipino communities here in the UK irrespective of their profession and geographical location,” ayon sa grupo.
Hinikayat din ng grupo ang mga nurse na makipag-ugnayan sa mga pulis o sa kanilang mga manager kung nakararamdam sila ng peligro sa kanilang buhay.
Pinayuhan din ng Philippine Embassy sa London ang mga Pilipino sa UK na mag-ingat dahil sa nagaganap na karahasan sa ilang lugar dulot ng riots.
“Filipinos in the United Kingdom are urged to remain vigilant, exercise due caution, follow the latest updates and guidance issued by UK authorities, and avoid areas of mass gathering where there may be disruption or violence,” ayon sa embahada.
Tiniyak naman ni Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting, na parurusahan ang mga sangkot sa karahasan.
“These people are there for our country when we need them. They look after us at our most vulnerable and bust a gut to keep us well. Their attackers bring shame on our nation and our flag. We will not tolerate NHS or social care staff being subjected to intimidation, harassment, or racist abuse,” saad ni Streeting sa video message na ipinost noong August 9 sa Facebook.
“Anyone racially or violently abusing NHS staff or care staff can and should be turned away. These are the disgraceful actions of a tiny minority. These far-right thugs have no idea about our country's history or heritage. They do not represent who we are,” dagdag niya.-- FRJ, GMA Integrated News
