Binigyan-halaga ng Amir ng Qatar na si Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, ang kontribusyon ng Pinoy community sa Qatar sa pag-unlad ng kanilang bansa. Nasa bansa ngayon ang Amir para sa dalawang araw na state visit.
“This is my pleasure to take this opportunity to praise the Filipino community residing in the State of Qatar and their effective contribution to the development, progress in our country,” pahayag ni Sheikh Tamim kay Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. sa kanilang bilateral meeting sa Malacañang Palace.
Ayon sa Presidential Communications Office, mayroong 242,609 na Pilipino sa Qatar. Noong 2022, umabot sa $895.33 milyon ang remittances sa Pilipinas na mula sa Qatar.
Nagpasalamat din si Sheikh Tamim kay Marcos sa Filipino hospitality na kaniyang nasaksihan kaugnay sa pirmahan ng ilang memoranda of understanding (MOUs), na magpapalakas pa lalo sa ugnayan ng Pilipinas at Qatar.
“The Philippines is an important partner for us in many fields and especially in trade, economic cooperation. And, we aspired to improve these relations to increase communication between the private sector in both the countries,” ayon sa Amir.
“I thank you once again, Your Excellency and I wish your country, the Philippines a continued progress and prosperity. Thank you very much, Your Highness,” dagdag pa ni Sheikh Tamim.
Taong 2012 pa nang huling bumisita sa Pilipinas ang isang Amir ng Qatar.
Kasama sa kasunduan na pinirmahan ngayon ng Pilipinas at Qatar ay ang pagpapaigting ng proteksyon sa mga manggagawa at paglaban sa human trafficking.
