NEW YORK - Nagsagawa ng kilos protesta kontra sa State of the Nation Address (SONA) ni Pangulong Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. ang ilang grupo ng mga Pilipino sa New York at Washington, DC nitong Lunes (PHL time).
Ang mga grupo na kasapi sa Northeast Coalition to Advance Genuine Democracy in the Philippines ay nagtipon-tipon sa harap ng Philippine Consulate General sa New York para sa nasabing kilos protesta.
Kabilang sa kanilang mga binigyang diin ay ang kanilang nine-point agenda para sa Pilipinas na nais nilang pagtuunan ng pansin ng administrasyon ni Marcos. Ito ay ang sumusunod:
- regulate prices;
- revive local agriculture;
- enact land reform and national industrialization;
- focus on national defense along with the promotion of human rights;
- adopt a clear government policy to fight disinformation, protect freedom of expression and press freedom;
- institute a democratic, ethical and accountable governance;
- provide free health care and basic social services for the people;
- uphold national sovereignty and an independent foreign policy that will place national interest above any foreign dictates of agenda; and
- ensure country’s natural wealth and resources.
Sa Washington, DC naman ay nagsama-sama ang mahigit sa isang daang militante para sa isang People’s SONA.
Nagmartsa ang mga militante mula sa Dupont Circle patungo sa Embahada ng Pilipinas kung saan inihayag nila ang kanilang hinaing sa gobyerno.
Inihayag ni Bennard ng Migrante na kahit kailan ay hindi na guminhawa ang buhay ng migrant workers dahil na rin umano sa maling polisiya ng gobyerno.
“The Philippines’ worsening economic crisis, lack of support for migrant workers and the problematic labor export policy, first institutionalized by Marcos Sr in the 1960s... It is a policy that has facilitated the forced migration of millions of Filipino people and has not done anything to truly take them out of poverty and it subjects them to abuse, trafficking, and exploitation," aniya.
Banta ng mga militante, sasalubungin ng malaking kilos protesta ang pagdating ni Marcos sa New York sa darating na Setyembre.
Inaasahang dadalo sa United Nations General Assembly si Marcos sa Setyembre at magsasalita siya sa harap ng mga heads of state.
Inimbitahan din ni US President Joe Biden si Marcos na bumisita sa Washington, DC, ayon kay Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez.
Nitong Lunes ng hapon, Hulyo 25, ay nakatakdang magbigay si Marcos ng kanyang unang SONA sa Batasang Pambansa.
Inaasahang tatalakayin niya sa kanyang talumpati ang plano ng kanyang administrasyon para makamit ng bansa ang economic recovery, at pati na rin ang mga plano tungkol sa face-to-face classes at COVID-19 response. —KG, GMA News
