Tuloy umano ang paglalayag ng civilian mission sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) sa kabila ng ulat na may malaking bilang ng mga Chinese vessel ang patungo sa Scarborough Shoal.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Rafaela David, co-convenor ng Atin Ito coalition, na "we shall press forward with our peaceful voyage undeterred by any intimidation."

"We will sail with determination, not provocation, to civilianize the region and safeguard our territorial integrity," dagdag niya.

Ayon kay David, na presidente rin ng Akbayan, nakatakda ang mapayapang "civilian mission" mula May 14 hanggang 17. Ang gagawin umano nila ay lehitimong pagpapatupad ng kanilang karapatan bilang Pilipino at ng Philippine sovereign rights base sa international law.

"The reported heavy presence of Chinese marine vessels in Bajo de Masinloc is lamentable, but not surprising. It only underscores the urgency of civilianizing the area in response to China's militarization," giit ni David.

Inilabas ng grupo ang pahayag kasunod ng isiniwalat ng dating US Air Force official at dating defense attaché na si Ray Powell, na nagmomonitor sa sitwasyon sa WPS, na nagpadala ang China ng isang "huge force" para harangan ang Scarborough Shoal bago pa ang nakatakdang civilian mission ng mga Pinoy sa lugar.

Sa post sa X (dating Twitter), sinabi ni Powell na ito na ang "largest blockade" sa Scarborough Shoal na nakita niya.

"China is sending a huge force to blockade Scarborough Shoal ahead of the Atin Ito civilian convoy setting sail from the Philippines Tuesday. By this time tomorrow at least four coast guard and 26 large maritime militia ships on blockade (not counting 'dark' vessels)," ani Powell.

"This will be by far the largest blockade I'll have ever tracked at Scarborough. China seems determined to aggressively enforce its claim over the shoal, of which it seized control from the Philippines in 2012 as summarized by AsiaMTI," dagdag pa niya.

Sinabi ni Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea na si Commodore Jay Tarriela, na titiyakin nila ang kaligtasan ng mga sasama sa civilian mission na ang hangad ay magkaloob ng tulong sa mga mangingisdang Pinoy sa lugar. —FRJ, GMA Integrated News
