Hindi na matutuloy ang nakatakdang special election sa third district ng Negros Oriental sa December 9 matapos itong kanselahin ng Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Layunin sana ng naturang special election na humanap ng kapalit ni dating Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves, Jr., na sinibak sa puwesto ng Kamara de Representantes.

Ang pagkansela ng Comelec sa special election ay pagsunod nito sa rekomendasyon ng law department at ipinasang resolusyon sa Kamara na ipagpaliban ang naturang halalan.
“This afternoon, the Comelec en banc adopted the recommendation of our law department, which is the House Resolution 136 calling for the conduct of special elections in the Third Legislative District of the province of Negros Oriental is deemed recalled and abandoned upon the passage of House Resolution 154,” sabi ni Comelec Chairman George Garcia.
“Therefore, in recognition of the legislative power of Congress, the Law Department and the [Comelec] en banc decided to cancel the conduct of special elections in the Third Legislative District of the province of Negros Oriental and for the Commission to discontinue its ongoing preparation for the said special election,” dagdag niya.
Inaprubahan ng Kamara ang House Resolution 154 nitong November 7, isang araw matapos maghain ng certificate of candidacy (COC) si Pryde Henry Teves, kapatid ni Arnie.
Patuloy na nagtatago sa ibang bansa si Arnie makaraang kasuhan kaugnay sa nangyaring pagpatay kay Negors Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, at iba pang biktima.
Dahil sa hindi pagdalo sa sesyon ng Kamara, kahit paso na ang kaniyang travel authority mula sa liderato ng kapulungan, inalis na si Arnie sa listahan ng mga kongresista.
Sa mga naunang pahayag, itinanggi ni Arnie ang mga ibinibintang laban sa kaniya.—FRJ, GMA Integrated News
