Nagbabala si Speaker Martin Romualdez sa mga nais umanong manira at magdikta sa Kamara de Representantes. Bagaman wala siyang binanggit na pangalan, tinawag kamakailan ni ex-President Rodrigo Duterte na "bulok" ang kapulungan.
Ginawa ni Romualdez ang babala nitong Lunes, nang buksan niya ang pagpapatuloy ng ikalawang regular na sesyon ng ika-19 na Kongreso.
“Let it be said, never must we countenance or allow others not so likely-minded individuals who choose to malign or put down the image of this institution and dictate the direction we must go. I urge everyone to rally behind our true moral compass – the will of the people,” ayon kay Romualdez.
“Tatayo ako laban sa sinuman na mananakot sa atin para masunod lamang ang gusto nila. Titindig ako — tayong lahat— para sa kapakanan ng bayan,” patuloy ng lider ng mga kongresista.
Una rito, tinawag ni Duterte na pinakabulok na institusyon sa pamahalaan ang Kamara na pinamumunuan ni Romualdez. Ayon sa dating pangulo, sagana sa pork barrel funds ang mga kongresista, ang pondo na idineklarang ilegal ng Korte Suprema noong 2013.
Sinabi pa ni Duterte na pinag-iinitan umano ni Romualdez ang kaniyang anak na si Vice President at Education Secretary Sara Duterte, dahil tatakbo mong pangulo sa 2028 si Romualdez at posibleng makalaban niya si Sara.
Ginawa ng nakatatandang Duterte ang mga banat kay Romualdez matapos na magpasya ang Kamara na alisin sa 2024 General Appropriation Act, ang P500 milyon at P150 milyon na confidential funds para sa mga opisina ni Sara na Office of the Vice President at Department of Education.
Inilipat ang nasa P1.2 bilyon na confidential budget sa mga ahensiya na may kaugnayan sa national security.
Tinanong naman ni Albay Representative Edcel Lagman kung sino ang nasa likod ng planong paninira sa Kamara, na sinagot ni House Senior Deputy Speaker Dong Gonzales, at tinukoy si dating pangulo na si Duterte, chairman ng PDP-Laban.
Bago sagutin si Lagman, nagbitiw muna si Gonzales bilang miyembro ng nasabing partido na pinamumunuan ni Duterte.
Matapos nito, inaprubahan ng Kamara ang House Resolution 1414 upang itaguyod ang integridad at dangal ng kapulungan, at pagsuporta sa liderato ni Romualdez.
“The dignity, integrity and reputation of the House of Representatives are of utmost importance and must be preserved at all times. The undersigned Deputy Speakers, party leaders, and members of the House of Representatives, stand united in expressing our deep gratitude and respect to our esteemed Speaker,” saad sa resolusyon.
“As a source of our strength and inspiration, we support the Speaker's relentless dedication in amplifying the voice of every Representative, regardless of the challenges and barriers encountered as demonstrated by his staunch commitment to preserve the democratic values,” dagdag nito.
Hindi lumagda sa resolusyon si House Deputy Speaker at dating Pangulong Gloria Arroyo, chairperson emeritus ng Lakas-CMD, ang partido na kinabibilangan ni Romualdez, na siya ang tumatayong presidente.
Kilala si Arroyo, na tagasuporta ni Duterte, na dating itinanggi na may plano siyang patalsikin si Romualdez bilang lider ng Kamara.
