Inanunsyo ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ngayong Miyerkoles ang pag-alis niya sa price cap sa bigas.

"Well, I think it's the appropriate time since namimigay tayo ng bigas. Yes, as of today we are lifting the price caps on the rice both for the regular-milled rice and for the well-milled rice," sabi ni Marcos nang makapanayam ng mga mamamahayag sa Taguig City.

"So tinatanggal na natin 'yung mga control. Pero hindi ibig sabihin basta't ganoon na lang dahil kailangan pa rin natin ayusin ang agricultural sector," dagdag niya.

Matatandaan na noong Setyembre 5 naging epektibo ang Executive Order 39 na inilabas ni Marcos para itakda sa P41 per kilo ang regular-milled rice, at P45 per kilo naman ang well-milled rice.

Ipinatupad ang naturang pagkontrol sa presyo ng bigas dahil sa labis na mataas ang presyo ng naturang produkto.

Bagaman inalis na ang price cap, sinabi ni Marcos na patuloy ang gagawin nilang pagkakaloob ng tulong sa mga magsasaka.

Kasunod ng pagpapatupad ng price ceiling, nagbigay ng P15,000 cash assistance ang pamahalaan sa mga apektadong nagtitinda ng bigas.

Sa press briefing sa Makati, sinabi ni Department of Trade at Industry-Fair Trade and Enforcement Bureau Director Fhillip Sawali, na naglabas ng joint memorandum circular sina Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual at Agriculture Senior Undersecretary Domingo, na nagrerekomenda na alisin na ang naturang price cap.

Ginawa ang rekomendasyon batay umano sa mga partikular na indikasyon tungkol sa magiging paggalaw ng presyo ng bigas sa merkado.

"The average selling prices are close to the mandated price ceilings which has an increasing compliance rate, while average farmgate price is maintained at P14 to P23 per kilo," ani Sawali.

Sinabi ng opisyal ng DTI na stable ang supply ng bigas at nadagdagan na ang nagbebenta ng regular milled at well-milled rice,  at sapat ang dami ng inaangkat na bigas.

"Since the implementation of EO 39, the DA has delivered a total of 567,205 kilos of rice, sold to rice retailers and Kadiwa outlets," ayon kay Sawali.

"From September 26, there were 456 rice containers released from the ports, of which, 168 were released from the Manila North Harbor, and 288 were released from the Manila South Harbor, while 597 rice containers remain docked as of October 2, 2023," patuloy niya.— FRJ, GMA Integrated News
