Naaresto na ng mga awtoridad ang isa sa mga suspek sa pananambang sa photojournalist na si Rene Joshua Abiad noong June 29 sa Quezon City, na isinasawi ng pamangkin nito na apat na taong gulang lang. Ayon pa sa pulisya, isang dating punong barangay sa Pasay ang posibleng utak sa krimen.

Sa press conference nitong Martes, kinilala ni Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III ang suspek na nadakip na Eduardo Almario Legazpi II, 31-anyos, residente ng Ilaya, Alabang sa Muntinlupa City.

Ayon kay Torre, isang professional gun for hire si Almario, na naaresto noong July 7 matapos ang isinagawang pagtugis ng joint operatives mula sa Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), District Intelligence Division (DID), at District Special Operations Unit (DSOU).

“The team reviewed CCTV footages obtained from OKADA where the Abiad Family initially came from, to the High Grounds Café until they reached the crime scene,” ayon sa pahayag ng QCPD.

“These led them to track down the escape route of the suspects who were on board a Toyota Vios and MIO motorcycle from the crime scene. The suspects took the Quezon Avenue Skyway and exited at San Pedro, Laguna, heading to Magsaysay Road, Muntinlupa City,” patuloy nito.

Nakipag-ugnayan din ang mga operatiba sa Southern Police District and Police Regional Office (PRO-4A). Dahil nakuhanan ng larawan ang suspek, naituro ng umano ng impormante kung saan nakatira si Almario.

Nakuha rin umano sa suspek ang isang kalibre .45 na baril, mga bala, belt bag at isang granada.

Nasa kostudiya ngayon ng Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) ang suspek.

“Almario will be charged with violations of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and Republic Act 9516 or the Unlawful Possession of Firearms, Ammunition, and Explosives have been filed against Almario before the Muntinlupa City Prosecutor’s Office while cases of Murder and three (3) counts of Frustrated Murder will be filed before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office,” ayon sa QCPD.

Ayon naman sa ulat ng GMA News "24 Oras" nitong Martes,  patuloy ang operasyon ng mga awtoridad sa para madakip ang iba pang suspek.

Lumilitaw din sa imbestigasyon ng mga awtoridad na isang dating Barangay Chairman sa Pasay City na may alyas na "Nanad,” ang umano'y mastermind sa pag-ambush kay Abiad.

“Personal grudge ng ex-barangay captain because Josh is supposedly associated with people who are always lambasting the ex-barangay captain,” ayon kay  Torre.

Nasugatan pero nakaligtas sa naturang ambush si Abiad, na photographer para sa Remate Online. Nasugatan din ang limang pang kasama sa sasakyan, pero nasawi ang isa niyang pamangkin na tinamaan ng bala sa ulo.
