Sinabi ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) nitong Miyerkules na nananatili pa rin "sa ngayon" ang deadline ng SIM registration sa April 26, 2023.
Inihayag ito ng DICT kasunod ng mga apela mula sa public telecommunications entities (PTEs) Globe Telecom Inc., Smart Communications, at DITO Telecommunity Corp., na palawigin ang SIM registration habang papalapit na ang deadline nito.
Hanggang nitong April 17, 2023, nasa 43.47% ng 168 million mobile subscriber base nationwide ang nakapagpaparehistro pa lang ng kanilang SIMs o subscriber identity module.
Katumbas ito ng 73,033,833 registered SIMS, na ang malaking bahagi ay mula sa Smart na 36,115,938 registered subscribers.
Sumunod ang Globe na may 31,585,578, habang 5,332,317 registered SIMs naman ang DITO.
Sa kabila ng apela ng PTEs, sinabi ng DICT na “at this point, there is no extension of SIM registration.”
Nagpaalala sa publiko ang DICT na iparehistro ang kanilang SIM upang hindi ito made-activate pagkatapos ng deadline ng pagpaparehistro April 26, 2023.
“The DICT reiterates that the SIM Registration Act places primacy on the fundamental rights of Filipinos and is replete with safeguards to ensure the confidentiality and security of user data,” anang kagawaran.
“The DICT is one with PTEs in ensuring that Filipinos can enjoy safe and secure mobile phone services through the holistic implementation of the SIM Registration Act,” dagdag nito.
Sa ilalim ng batas, maaaring palawigan ng DICT ng 120 araw ang pagpaparehistro matapos ang deadline kung kailangan.
