Inihayag ng embahador ng Pilipinas sa Amerika na bukas umano ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ipagamit sa US ang mga pasilidad ng Pilipinas kapag nakarating sa Asya ang labanan ng Russian at Ukraine.

“He says if they're asking for the support of the Philippines he was very clear that if push comes to shove the Philippines will be ready to be part of the effort especially if this Ukrainian crisis spills over to the Asian region,” sabi ni Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez sa online media forum.

“He offered that the Philippines will be ready to open its doors especially to our ally the US in using our facilities, any facilities they may need,” patuloy niya.

Wala pang inilalabas na pahayag ang Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) tungkol sa nasabing usapin.

"Will seek an official reaction if any," tugon ni Assistant Secretary Ed Menez nang hingan ng reaksiyon.

Wala rin tugon sa ngayon ang Malacañang tungkol sa sinabi ni Romualdez.

Mayroong Mutual Defense Treaty ang Pilipinas at United States, tungkol sa pagtutulungan at pagdepensa sa isa't isa ng dalawang bansa.

Nakausap ni Romualdez kamakailan si Duterte sa Pilipinas. Ipinahayag umano ng pangulo ang kahandaan na ipagamit sa US sa "emergency situation" ang dating military bases sa Clark, Pampanga, at Subic sa Zambales.

Patuloy sa ngayon ang pag-atake ng Russia sa Ukraine na nagsimula noong February 24. Kabilang ang Amerika sa mga tumuligsa sa ginawa ng Russia.

“I’m pretty sure that the President meant this to be in an emergency situation where, let’s pray it does not happen, but if it spreads out in the Asian region for some reason or another, the President obviously sees that need for us to make a choice,” ani Romualdez.

“And our choice is obviously and since we have an MDT with the United States, we have this special relationship and military alliance, he said he is allowing the use of facilities,” dagdag ng embahador.

Ipinaliwanag din ni Romualdez na pinapahalagahan ni Duterte ang pakikipagkaibigan nito kay Russian President Putin, at maging kay Chinese President Xi pero batid umano ng Punong Ehekutibo na hindi dapat nangyari ang sitwasyon ngayon sa Ukraine.

“The President was very concerned about it and his major concern was how it will affect our economy which already is and that’s definitely number one that came into our discussion,” ani Romualdez.

Kabilang ang Pilipinas sa 140 bansa na bumoto pabor sa resolusyon sa United Nation upang kondenahin ang ginawang pagsalakay ng Russia sa Ukraine, na isang malayang bansa.— FRJ, GMA News
