Maagang natapos ang laban ni Rabiya Mateo sa 69th Miss Universe competition nang hindi siya nakapasok sa Top 10. Ang pambato naman ng Mexico ang itinanghal na bagong Miss Universe.
Kabilang sa mga kandidatang nakapasok sa top 10 ng kompetisyon na ginanap sa Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino sa Hollywood, Florida, ang mga kinatawan ng:
Jamaica
Dominican Republic
India
Peru
Australia
Puerto Rico
Thailand
Costa Rica
Mexico
Brazil
Mula sa 74 kandidata, nabawasan na agad ang mga kalahok nang piliin ang Top 21 na nakasama si Rabiya.
Sumabak sila sa swimsuit competition kung saan pinili muli ng Top 10.
Rumampa naman sa evening gown competition ang Top 10 candidates.
Si Miss Mexico Andrea Meza ang nagwagi bilang 2020 Miss Universe na kinoronahan ni Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi.
Sa final Q&A, tinanong si Meza: "If you were the leader of your country. How would you have handled COVID-19 pandemic?"
Tugon niya:
I believe there's not a perfect way to handle this for situations, such as COVID-19. However, I believe that what I would have done was create a lockdown even before everything was that big. Because we lost so many lives and we cannot afford that. We have to take care of our people. That's why I would have taken care of them since the beginning.
Sa kaniyang Final Word, inihayag ni Meza sa pamamagitan ng kaniyang interpreter na:
We live in a society that more and more is more in advanced. as we advance as a society, we also advance in stereotype. beauty isn't only the way we look. for me, beauty radiates not only in our spirts but in our hearts and the way we conduct ourselves. never permit someone to tell you you are not valuable.
