Mariing kinondena ang samahan ng foreign correspondents sa Manila ang alegasyon ng China na minamanipula ng local at international media outlets ang mga video na nakikita ang ginagawang panggigipit at pambobomba ng tubig ng Chinese coast guard sa mga sasakyang pandagat ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.

Inilabas ng Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) ang pahayag nitong Miyerkules, matapos mag-post sa X, dating Twitter, si China foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying, na nagsasaad na nagsasama umano ang Pilipinas ng mga journalist sa pinag-aagawang teritoryo, at minamanipula umano ang mga video footage, "to make sensational news and project the Philippines as a victim."

Pinakahuling insidente ng panggigipit ng mga Chinese vessels sa mga barko ng Pilipinas ang pambobomba na naman ng tubig na nagresulta sa pagkakasugat ng tatlong Filipino sa Ayungin Shoal.

" We strongly rejects and condemns the false, baseless claims by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying and the Chinese Embassy in Manila," ayon sa pahayag ng FOCAP kaugnay sa alegasyon ng manipulasyon sa video.

"FOCAP takes deep offense at the insinuation that the press is a 'troublemaker' and in cahoots with the government to forward a political agenda," dagdag pa ng grupo.

Giit pa nila, "The claim that the Philippines 'had [journalists] manipulate' their footage is a barefaced lie."

Sa serye ng posts sa X ni Hua, inilatag nito ang posisyon ng China sa pag-angkin sa mga teritoryo sa South China Sea, pati na ang mga nasa teritoryo ng Pilipinas na tinatawag na WPS.

"Each time the Philippines delivered supplies to the grounded warship, they had many journalists on board and had them manipulate the videos they recorded," sabi ng opisyal ng China.

Ang naturang post ni Hua, ni-repost ng Chinese Embassy sa kanilang Facebook page.

Kabilang ang GMA Integrated News sa mga local media outfit na kasama sa mga paglalayag sa WPS kasunod ng imbitasyon ng mga awtoridad.

"The statements by the Foreign Ministry spokesman and embassy are an insult to the integrity of journalists and an alarming attempt to muzzle an independent press," ayon sa FOCAP.

"As part of the larger tradition of the free press in the Philippines," sinabi ng FOCAP na nagpakita ito ng "credibility in covering both domestic and geopolitical conflicts since its founding in 1974."

"Members of FOCAP include both Filipinos and foreign nationals from around the world, some of whom have embedded in these Philippine missions," giit pa ng grupo.

Inihayag ng FOCAP na masusing sinusuri ng mga footage na ibinabalita ng mga mamamahayag. Hindi umano matitinag ang grupo sa anomang balakin na siraan sila.

"The footage seen in the press is vetted by multiple sources and newsrooms. The work of journalists, including members of FOCAP and especially when carried by multiple media outlets, speaks for itself," ayon sa grupo.

"FOCAP will not be intimidated by threats and groundless attempts to smear its members’ reputation. We will continue to courageously cover developments and the impact of events in South China Sea and across the region," patuloy nito. — FRJ, GMA Integrated News
