Sinabi ni Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian na aprubado na ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ang gagawing pilot run ng food stamp program ng pamahalaan.

"The President approved the run of the pilot, which is fully-funded through grants... grants from the ADB (Asian Development Bank), JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and the French Development Agency. So that will be $3 million all in all," pahayag ni Gatchalian sa press briefing sa Palasyo nitong Martes.

"There is a provision to expand it. ADB is still working on other trust funds so that we could expand the pilot. But other than that, it's all green lights go na for the pilot which will take place shortly," dagdag pa ng kalihim.

Ayon kay Gatchalian, nais ng pangulo na isali sa programa ang single parent, mga buntis, at nagpapasusong mga ina.

"Ang marching order ng Pangulo dapat malabanan natin ang stunting at ang kagutuman, pagsanib-puwersa ng mga iba't-ibang programa ng gobyerno, para hindi sila piece by piece ang turing sa mga programa," paliwanag ng kalihim.

Sinabi naman ni Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa na dapat may nutritional value ang mga pagkaing isasama sa programa.

"It actually jives, the poorest one million... be able to give them food stamps so that they will have nutritious food," pahayag ng opisyal.

Ayon kay Herbosa, ang stunting rates o bilang ng bansot ay nasa 21.6% sa edad 0 to 23-months-old, o isa sa bawat limang bata, at 28.7% para sa mga under five-years-old.

Target umano ni Herbosa na mabawasan ng 50 percent ang mga batang bansot.

"Mag-uusap kami ni Secretary Rex, we’ll of course promise what is doable kasi depende iyan pilot pa lang tayo but if you ask me, I want to hit 50% of that [unclear] decrease para talagang pababa and then hindi mo naman masi-zero iyan eh kasi there will [be] hard to reach areas," paliwanag ni Herbosa.

Una rito, ipinaliwanag ng ahensiya na magkakaloob sila ng "electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards" na naglalaman ng food credits na nagkakahalaga ng P3,000 bawat buwan. Ito ang gagamitin na pambayad sa mga piling food commodities mula sa mga DSWD registered o accredited local retailers. — FRJ, GMA Integrated News
