Nais ni Senador Manny Pacquiao na baguhin ang pangalan ng Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) na taunang kapistahan ng mga pelikulang Pinoy sa Metro Manila.
Sa Senate Bill No. 2017 na inihain ng senador, nais ni Pacquiao na tawagin na itong Philippine Film Festival (PFF).
"Despite MMFF’s commitments to enrich Philippine culture, to deepen our awareness of our historical heritage and traditional values, and to refurbish native arts, the event’s nomenclature depicts exclusivity," saad ni Pacquiao sa explanatory note ng panukala.
"The 'Metro Manila' in the Metro Manila Film Festival conveys exclusiveness of the illustrious tradition and celebration of local film production to the country’s capital," patuloy niya.
Sa pamamahala ng Film Development Council of the Philippines, ginaganap ang MMFF tuwing Disyembre 25 sa Metro Manila na tumatagal hanggang unang linggo ng susunod na taon.
"During the course of the festival, only films approved by the jurors of the MMFF are shown in movie theaters. No foreign movies are shown except in 3D theaters and IMAX theaters," ayon sa FDCP sa kanilang official website.
Ang MMFF ay pinamamahalaan ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman at mga pangunahing kasapi ng film industry.
Sa nagdaang mga taon, ipinapalabas na rin maging sa ilang lalawigan ang mga pelikulang kalahok sa film festival.
Nitong nakaraang Disyembre, sa streaming app ipinalabas ang mga pelikulang kalahok sa 2020 MMFF dahil sarado ang mga sinehan bunga ng COVID-19 pandemic.--FRJ, GMA News
