Sinibak na bilang kongresista o miyembro ng Kamara de Representantes nitong Miyerkules si Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves, Jr.
Sa isinagawang botohan sa plenaryo, 265 ang bumoto pabor na sibakin si Teves, tatlo ang hindi bumoto, at walang tumutol.
Ang desisyon ay batay sa rekomendasyon ng House Committee on Ethics na pinamumunuan ni Coop-NATCCO party-list Representative Felimon Espares.
Kasunod ito nang patuloy na pagtatago ni Teves at hindi na dumadalo sa sesyon ng kapulungan. Kaya naman hindi na umano nagagampanan ng mambabatas ang kaniyang tungkulin.
“The prolonged unauthorized absence of Rep. A. Teves Jr. deprives the 3rd District of Negros Oriental of proper representation and undermines the efficiency of the legislative process," saad sa committee report.
"Instead of actively participating in deliberations on important legislative measures pending in the House, the representative refuses to return to the country and perform his duties as House Member,” dagdag pa nito.
“All these actuations of a legislative district representative weakens the institution's effectiveness in serving the public and tarnishes the integrity and reputation of the House,” ayon pa sa committee report.
Bago sibakin, sinuspinde muna ng liderato ni Speaker Martin Romualdez si Teves.
Nitong nakaraang buwan, idineklarang "terrorist" si Teves ng Anti-Terrorism Council, kasama ang 12 iba pa.
Iniuugnay ng Department of Justice (DOJ) si Teves sa nangyaring pagbatay kay Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo, at walong iba pa noong Marso.
Mula noon, hindi na dumalo sa sesyon ng Kamara si Teves, na ilang beses itinanggi na may kinalaman siya sa nangyari kay Degamo.
Bukod sa nangyari kay Degamo, iniuugnay din si Teves sa mga insidente ng patayan sa lalawigan noong 2019. — FRJ, GMA Integrated News
