Sinabi ni House Majority Leader at Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, na mas gusto ng kanilang partido na ang pinakamataas na posisyon sa bansa ang asintahin ng bago nilang miyembro na si Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte sa Eleksyon 2022.
Sa virtual press conference nitong Biyenes, tinanong ng mga mamamahayag si Romualdez kung nais ng partido nila na tumakbong pangulo o bise presidente si Mayor Sara.
Ayon sa mambabatas, susuportahan nila ang alkalde anuman ang maging desisyon nito, pero mas nais ng partido na tumakbo ang anak ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa pinakamataas na posisyon sa bansa.
"Well obviously when Mayor Inday joined the party, these are two options. Whenever you make decision such as this, the candidate has most at stake. We like to support the candidate's personal decision. We would obviously want to have the highest position but we also respect the prerogative of the candidate," paliwanag ni Romualdez.
Inaasahan ni Romualdez na ihahayag ni Mayor Sara ang desisyon ngayong weekend, bago ang deadline ng Commission on Elections sa substitution o pagpapalit ng mga kandidato sa Nobyembre 15.
Tinanong din si Romualdez kung maiipit ba siya sakaling tumakbong sa pagka-pangulo si Mayor Sara at makakalaban nito ang kaniyang pinsan na si dating senador Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
Tugon ng mambabatas, magkaibigan sina Mayor Sara at Marcos.
"I don't foresee a conflict. Mayor Sara and Senator Bongbong Marcos are good friends. They have been communicating, they have been in dialogue. I don't foresee them having a conflict therefore I don't foresee myself getting caught in the middle," saad ni Romualdez.
Umaasa si Romualdez na magkakaroon ng alyansa ang dalawa.
"I'm hoping for that... Discussions between the two have been along those lines eh. We're thinking very positively about this. If anything, we're in the middle of getting two excellent leaders that can serve the country," dagdag pa niya.--FRJ, GMA News
