Nabuhayan ng pag-asa ang isang kongresista na aaprubahan na ng Kongreso ang panukalang batas na payagan ang same-sex civil unions matapos na magpahayag ng suporta rito si Pope Francis.

Sa kaniyang pahayag nitong Huwebes, ikinatuwa ni dating Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez (Davao Del Norte) ang pagsuporta ng Santo Papa sa civil wedding ng same-sex partners na inilarawan niyang "enlightening and courageous."

"With Pope Francis sharing his thoughts about this issue, let us be optimistic that more legislators in the House and in the Senate become open and supportive to the objectives of House Bill 2264," patungkol ni Alvarez sa nakabinbing civil partnership bill sa Kamara.

"Our LGBT brothers and sisters deserve to have protection, under the law, for their respective union with the person they choose to be their life partner," dagdag niya.

Inihain ni Alvarez ang naturang panukala noong nakaraang 17th Congress pero hindi nakapasa kaya muli niya itong inihain.

Sa ilalim ng panukala (House Bill 2264), ang mga proteksiyon at pribilehiyo ng mga ikinasal na mag-asawa sa ilalim ng mga umiiral na batas, administrative orders, court rulings, o iba pang umiiral na public policy ay dapat din makamit ng mga mag-asawa na ikinasal sa huwes.

Dapat ding makamit ng mga ikinasal sa huwes na same-sex couple ang mga batas sa marital relations, pati na donations by reason of marriage, legal separation, adoption, child custody and support, property division and maintenance, at spousal support.

"I understand that the opposition against civil unions come from members of our community with conservative views. But let us ask, is there really reason to oppose Civil Unions based on conservatism?" ayon kay Alvarez.

"After all, if two persons choose to love, care for, support (and be faithful to) each other, and to have these rights, duties, and obligations protected and enforceable by law, is this not conservatism too?" dagdag niya.

Umaasa si Alvarez na magkakaroon ng kaliwanagan ang mga kongresista at senador sa naging pagsuporta ni Pope Francis sa same-sex civil unions.

"For some, maybe they’ll need more time to digest the signs of the times. But let us be patient because, in the end, reality eventually catches up," anang dating speaker.

"This is a good opportunity to reignite, once more, the conversation about the realities of existing relationships and the need to have a legal framework for this kind of human relations," dagdag niya.

Wala pang pahayag ang Simbahang Katolika tungkol sa naging pahayag ng Santo Papa.

Sa isang ulat naman ng GMA News "24 Oras," sinabi ni Senate President Tito Sotto na tinatanggap naman sa lipunan ang pagsasama ng same-sex couple at makabubuting hanggang dito na lang daw muna ito.

Hindi rin naniniwala ang senador kung makakaimpluwensiya sa mga mambabatas ang naging posisyon ni Pope Francis na payagang maikasal sa huwes ang nagkarelasyon na pareho ang kasarian.

Si presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, muling inihayag na sinusuportahan ng administrasyong Duterte ang civil union ng same-sex couples.

Pero ipinauubaya na raw nila sa Kongreso ang pasya na maglatag ng batas para dito.--FRJ,GMA News
