Sinabi ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) na umabot na sa 47,000 ang natatanggap nilang sumbong at reklamo mula sa mga electricity consumer dahil sa mataas na singil sa kuryente sa bansa.

Sa pagdinig ng Senado nitong Lunes, sinabi ni ERC chairperson Agnes Devanadera na kung mayroon tinatawag na "bill shock," nakaranas naman sila ng "complainant shock."

"Hindi ho namin na-anticipate at all, so kung anuman ang personnel na mayroon kami we're moving them to the consumer affairs service to be able to respond to these," anang opisyal.

"Sa ngayon ho mas marami tayo nare-receive sa social media, sa aming FB, sa aming e-mails, kung minsan ho text messages but all these things are treated as complaints kaya ho lumaki ng 47,000," dagdag pa niya.

Pinag-aaralan at hinihimay daw ng kanilang mga tauhan ang naturang mga reklamo at saka nila tatalakayin sa kinauukulang distribution utilities at electric cooperatives.

Isa umano sa mga inirereklamo ay ang Meralco dahil sa nakalilito raw nitong singil sa kuryente.

"Doon pa lang po sa social media we’re getting complaints through Facebook, complaints thru text messages, we’re so deluged with so many complaints, we need to confer with Meralco, because on the face of it, ah hindi nakalagay specifically ano ang estimated amount dito," paliwanag niya.

Nangako naman ang Meralco na lilinawin nila sa mga susunod na ipadadalang sulat sa mga konsumer ang kanilang singil.

Dadagdagan din daw nila ang kanilang mga tauhan na didinig sa mga reklamo.

"Let me ask for the indulgence of the chair and the committee and let me apologize for the continuing inconvenience to our customers brought about by their issues and concerns regarding these billing matters," saad ni Meralco President and CEO Ray Espinosa.

"As we speak, we are hiring more people as call center agents, deploying more people to respond to emails, and even to issues raised in our various social media channels," patuloy niya.

Matatandaan na marami ang nagulat sa sobrang taas ng singil ng Meralco partikular sa buwan ng Mayo na naka-lockdown ang Metro Manila. --FRJ, GMA News
