Nawalan ng luxury electric car na nagkakahalaga ng £50,000 o mahigit P3.7 milyon ang isang pamilya, matapos itong biglang umusok at sumabog kahit nakaparada at naka-charge lang sa Spratton, England.

Sa ulat ng GMA Integrated Newsfeed, sinabing nagcha-charge noon sa loob ng kanilang garahe ang electric Mercedes Benz ng pamilya ni Scott Bayliss nang maganap ang insidente.

Tinangka nilang apulahin ang apoy gamit ang tubig mula sa mga hose, pero hindi na nila napigilan ang apoy sa paglamon sa kanilang mamahaling sasakyan.

"We were watching TV and suddenly there was a popping sound. My son thought someone was letting off fireworks, but then there was a very loud bang like a bomb going off. There were flames everywhere," sabi ni Bayliss.

Blangko ang mag-anak sa posibleng dahilan ng sunog ngunit ayon sa kanila, 10 oras nang idle ang sasakyan bago naganap ang pagsabog.

Hinala nila, nag-overheat ang baterya nito.

Ayon sa mga imbestigador, hindi na maganda ang kondisyon ng kotse na binili nila noong 2022.

Tinawagan ng pamilya ang distributor ng sasakyan ngunit hindi sila kuntento sa sagot ng kanilang nakausap.

"We don't know for sure what's happened. But based on knowledge and video footage, it looks like the car went into some thermal runaway. It exploded 20 seconds into that thermal runaway. You can see some vapor at the rear of the car and then it exploded. Then the next few hours were chaos," sabi ni Bayliss.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng kompanya ng sasakyan na sineseryoso nila ang insidente, at magsasagawa ng sariling imbestigasyon.

Nakikipag-ugnayan na rin sila sa insurance company.

"We were sorry to learn of the incident. We received feedback today and will set up a joint inspection shortly. In the meantime, we have offered Mr. Bayliss a loan car as a gesture of goodwill," sabi ng Mercedes Benz UK.—Jamil Santos/LDF, GMA Integrated News
