Former NCAA champion and Most Valuable Player, Rhenz Abando, helps Anyang KGC dethrone Seoul SK Knights, 100-97, to capture the 2022-23 Korean Basketball League (KBL) crown.
The La Union native went scoreless in the winner-take-all game seven but was instrumental in Anyang’s campaign this season.
Fighting with their backs against the wall in game six, Abando provided quality minutes for Anyang from both ends of the court in a come from behind victory to stay alive and extend the series.
Abando finished with nine points, a perfect 4-of-4 from the field including a long-two dagger in the dying seconds of the game, and grabbed seven rebounds.
In just his rookie year as a professional, the former Letran Knight has already won three championships with Anyang, the KBL championship, KBL regular season title, and the East Asia Super League championship.
Dubbed by the Korean media as the ‘SK Knights slayer’, Abando also took home the KBL Slam Dunk title during the 2023 KBL All-Star.
