The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Women’s Football League is set to kick off on March 22, 2025 at the Mall of Asia Football Pitch.
Six competing teams are set to see action, including powerhouses Kaya FC-Iloilo and Stallion Laguna FC.
Kaya Iloilo aims to defend the title it won in the league’s last staging in 2023 while Stallion Laguna hopes to ride on their momentum after winning the 2024 PFF Women’s Cup.
“We’re just very excited to get started. Our women’s league has been long overdue. All players involved, staff, managers are really excited also to be having matches at the grander venue, a very exciting venue that shows a lot of potential and we’re looking forward to take-off,” Kaya team manager Paul Tolentino said.
“For Stallion, we’re always ready for the challenge. We’re waiting for the competition and of course we are ready for action,” Stallion coach Finn McDaniel added.
Philippine national women’s football team members are also expected to raise the competition level in the league.
Hali Long will be leading Kaya’s backline while Olivia and Chandler McDaniel seek to chase for another silverware for Stallion.
Newly-formed club Capital1 Solar Strikers are also expected to give the teams a run for their money with multi-titled coach Let Dimzon at the helm.
“Although Capital1 is the new team for the women’s league, our team is not new. We already played with the different schools, universities and clubs… so we are excited to start and to show our talents," the veteran tactician bared.
Also participating this season are Ang Liga Under-19 champions Makati FC, and collegiate squads UST Lady Booters and the UP Women’s Football Team.
PFF President John Gutierrez said it is high time for the Philippines to have a competitive league after the success of the women’s national team in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand.
“It’s the time for us to take advantage of how popular women’s football in the country,” he said.
The league will follow a double round robin format and the team that garnered the biggest point will be declared champion.
UP and Stallion will lock horns in the curtain raiser on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. and will followed by Kaya and UST at 7:00 p.m.
