Athletes from different areas in the Province of Negros Occidental have competed in various sporting events of the Provincial Athletic Association Meet 2025.

The sports meet opened on January 28, 2025.

One of the events being focused tightly because of the intensity of the competition is volleyball.

Megan Yap, a volleybelle from Isabela West Elementary School, said she is a hundred-percent prepared for the tournament.

“Be confident at huwag kabahan. Maaga kaming natutulog. Tuwing umaga nagpa-practice upang maganda yung spike,” Megan said.

At a young age, athletes from Kabankalan City have learned the value of sportsmanship, communication, and discipline. The sepak takraw competitors said that sportsmanship, communication, and disicpline are key ingredients to ensure a chance at victory.

“Dapat disiplinado ka. Mag-communicate sa isa’t-isa para may chance na manalo,” Louie John Villaruel, young athlete, said.

Catherine Villo, a table tennis coach for boys division, believes in sports as a deterrent to vices among youngsters. 

“Ma-avoid sila sa mga masasamang gawain. Syempre after klase, pupunta sila at mag-practice kaagad. Sa sports sila naka-focus,” Villo said.

Meanwhile, Ben Villanueva, chairman of the Billeting Committee, has assured that athletes are accommodated well, and that needs are provided or addressed promptly.

“Kumpleto ang lahat. May ipinadala kaming medics sa bawat event para safe ang mga bata,” according to Villanueva of Rizal Elementary School in Bacolod City. 

The provincial sports meet will wrap up on February 1, 2025.
