Athletes from Lapu-Lapu City snagged medals immediately on the first day of “Batang Pinoy 2024 National Championships” in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
Immediately after the opening of the said sports competition on November 23, 2024, Lapu-Lapu City clinched seven gold medals, six silver medals, and one bronze medal in arnis.
Young arnisadors Jane Paller, Carlo Igot, Dwayne Manaytay, Clarence Prado, Charlz Gulbe, Kurt Imbert Limabaga, and Erica Heinz Inoc reaped gold medals.
The silver medalists are Jarolyn Ycoy, Brint Cinco, Alexah Ondoy, and Athena Kate Sapio, while Jacob Bulotano settled for a bronze medal.
On November 25, 2024, the young arnisadors are to compete in 24 more events that include full-contact matches.
Aside from arnis, other athletes have also started competing in their respective sport such as archery, badminton, chess, table tennis, gymnastics, dancesports, taekwondo, lawn tennis, swimming, and athletics.
In 2019, the City of Lapu-Lapu ranked sixth in the roster of participants to the Batang Pinoy National Championships with the most number of medal haul.
In 2024, it aspires to move notches higher to secure a spot in the Top Five, according to Arnis Lapu-Lapu City Head Coach Jonel Pepito.
