Differently abled sports enthusiasts competed in a volleyball tournament in Mandaue City.

The “sitting volleyball” event is one of the sports activities in line with Mandaue City’s Charter Anniversary celebration.

Teams from as far as Cadiz City and Silay City in the Province of Negros Occidental; Medellin and Daanbantayan in northern Cebu, as well as the neighboring city of Lapu-Lapu joined the tournament.

Rules observed in the game are that of the regular volleyball, but the net was lowered as the players were seated on the floor the whole time.

Dr. Michael Pielago, head of Persons with Disability Affairs Office in Mandaue City, said that aside from promoting sports, the sitting volleyball tournament is “a way of promoting camaraderie not just in Cebu but across the region.”

Medellin and Daanbantayan are new teams that were encouraged to join and help promote and develop sports programs province-wide for the differently abled, according to Joseph Jumantoc, president of the Federation of Persons with Disability (PWD) in Mandaue City.
