An Ilongga is striking a name in golf.
Necky Tortosa of Santa Barbara town in the Province of Iloilo placed second in the 16-18 category of the Visayas Series 2 of the Junior Philippine Golf Tour in June 2024.
Necky also took fourth place in the event's second leg in Binitin, Murcia town, Province of Negros Occidental.
Necky was able to carve a feat in golf despite being a person with disability. She was born with underdeveloped right hand. She was bullied for this, but she said she is determined to prove that the state of being differently abled is completely different from being disabled.
With the influence of her uncle, Necky learned the rudiments of golf. In the beginning, plenty of people regarded her skills with suspicion. She said it is no surprise, though, as she doubted herself, too.
Necky has her family’s support to thank big-time. Her love for golf is huge, so however daunting the sport is, the challenges it brings can seem surmountable.
Necky dreams of becoming a professional golfer and dreams even farther to reach the Olympics. She said that it is her earnest desire to pass on her knowledge about golf to youngsters interested in the sport.
Two hands may seem to be primary keys to be good at golf.
As for Necky, she banks on her dedication as her best key to deliver her ace shots.
