The National Capital Region (NCR) surged to the top of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 medal tally, surpassing Calabarzon (Region IV-A) as of the July 14, 2024 medal tally.

As of 8 p.m. on July 14, NCR leads the medal tally with an impressive haul of 61 gold, 47 silver, and 56 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Western Visayas (Region VI) goes neck to neck with Calabarzon (Region IV-A) for second place.

While Calabarzon has bagged 42 gold, 32 silver, and 36 bronze medals to ensure a second spot, Western Visayas is determined at adding up to its haul of 39 golds, 28 silver, and 31 bronze medals to wrestle for second place.

Davao Region (Region XI) and Central Visayas (Region VII) round out the top five with 24 gold, 18 silver, 21 bronze medals, and 22 gold, 34 silver, 23 bronze medals, respectively.

On sixth to 10th spots are Central Luzon (Region III), Eastern Visayas (Region VIII), Bicol Region (Region V), Soccsksargen (Region XII), and Zamboanga Peninsula (Region IX), respectively.

Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR), Northern Mindanao (Region X), Cagayan Valley (Region II), Caraga Administrative Region (Region XIII), and Ilocos (Region 1) settled for 11th to 15th spots, respectively.

National Academy of Sports takes 16th place, Mimaropa (Region IV-B) on 17th place, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on 18th, and Philippine Schools Overseas is on 19th spot or the last on the scoreboard.

Meanwhile, the drought for BARMM ended on July 14, 2024 with a silver medal haul in tennis and four bronze medals in arnis.

HIGHLIGHTS

On July 14, Northern Mindanao's strong start helped them eliminate Eastern Visayas (Region VIII) in the secondary girls quarterfinals. Setter Adi Cadusales led the team with nine points and five excellent sets.

NCR secured a semifinal spot in the secondary boys basketball by defeating Bicol Region 83-72. They also edged out CALABARZON 63-57 in the secondary boys basketball semifinals.

“We are hungry para bumawi,” Alhhumaeri Usop, Team Captain of the NCR secondary boys basketball team, said.

In the secondary girls volleyball, NCR’s Clarisse Loresco won the best player honors after finishing with 20 points in their match against Central Visayas.

“Gustong gusto din po namin makamit yung goal namin na, yung nga po, gusto namin makuha yung championship,” Loresco said.

Davao Region showcased their dominance against Eastern Visayas in the secondary boys basketball, winning 88-54.

Western Visayas, the defending champions, defeated Northern Mindanao in the semifinals of the secondary girls volleyball, 25-14, 25-13, 25-20. Carla Dosayla scored 11 points, earning the Best Player of the Game honors.

“This [game] gave me the opportunity to showcase my talents to prove that I could be ready for my next lineup,” Dosayla said.

With fierce competition and outstanding performances, the Palarong Pambansa 2024 continues to be an exciting showcase of young athletic talent from across the Philippines.
