Two student-athletes in Western Visayas demonstrated power performances in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2024.
Twelve-year-old Jose Rey "Dodoy" Posanso ranks Number 1 in academics. Dodoy has been awarded as Most Outstanding Student of Carles Central School in the Province of Iloilo.
His long list of achievements gets an addition after he emerges as one of the most bemedalled athletes in the WVRAA Meet 2024.
Dodoy copped five gold medals in separate events in athletics. He said that aside from him aspiring of the honors, his parents have dreamt of the feat, too.
Dodoy’s performance is a significant contribution to ensure Iloilo gets to defend its post in the previous WVRAA Meet as overall champion in the elementary boys and girls athletics, and secondary boys athletics competitions.
Meanwhile, 12-year-old Rachel Ann Malayas from the Province of Aklan proves why she is one of the most-watched, most distinguished lady athletes of her generation. Rachel set two new records.
She broke her 2019 Palarong Pambansa record in long jump at 5.08 meters with her WVRAA performance which recorded “5.13 meters.” She also surpassed her previous record of 1.40 meters in high jump with "1.52 meters" in the recent games.
Rachel has gone unstoppable. She has snagged the gold in triple jump.
Scholarship offers from various universities have now come to pursue her.
Overall, Negros Occidental gathered the most number of medals at 400. As for gold standing, Iloilo is king with its impressive haul of 160 medals.
