A suspected member of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group was killed in a reported attempt to attack a military base in Maguing, Lanao del Sur.
Government troops fended off around five alleged members of the terrorist group who tried to attack the base of Bravo Company of the 55th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Dilimbayan.
A firefight lasted for about five minutes.
Soldiers recovered the body of the slain terrorist and seized an M16 rifle and ammunition from the clash site.
55IB Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Don Villanueva, lauded the troops for their vigilance.
"Security knows no holiday. We must always be ready to defend our people," Villanueva said.
