Four suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in an armed encounter in a two-day gun battle in Barangay Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte.

The military said the alleged secretary of the weakened Guerilla Front in Misamis Occidental was among the fatalities.

No casualties on the government side was reported.

The military added that the rebels encountered by the troops under the 102nd Infantry Battalion (102IB) were said to be the last few remaining remnants of the NPA in Misamis Occidental.

Recovered from the clash site were MK2 Grenade, M4 rifle, and ammunition.

“The Philippine Army extends its condolences to the families while reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the local communities. The successful outcome of this operation underscores the dedication and professionalism of 102nd Infantry Brigade in safeguarding the peace and stability of the region,” the military said.
