After nearly six months of heightened volcanic activity, PHIVOLCS has lowered Mayon Volcano's alert level to two, indicating a moderate level of unrest - at least as of December 8, 2023.
There is also no more recommendation of evacuation of families residing within the danger zone.
Several parameters, such as decreased volcanic earthquake and rockfall events, along with a subsiding ground deformation or swelling of the volcano, contributed to lowering the alert level.
PHIVOLCS emphasizes that residents should not be complacent, as abnormal conditions persist, and there is a possibility of lahar flow if heavy rains occur.
