Relentless rains have led to widespread flooding in several areas in Uson, Masbate, compelling affected families to seek refuge in evacuation centers.

In Barangay Magsaysay, Uson, residents are grappling with rising water levels in the Buenavista River. Concerns over potential flooding prompted proactive measures with families preparing for evacuation.

"Naka-ready for evacuation na po kami... ang evacuation namin andun po kami sa simbahan namin nasa itaas-naka level up po yung aming church so lahat ng mga residente dito po samin sa Barangay Magsaysay, andun na po lahat sa church," said Daisy Alcovindas, a resident in the area.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Uson reports that over 80 families, equivalent to around 400 individuals from three barangays, have sought shelter in evacuation centers.

Relief goods were also distributed with other government agencies providing assistance.

"Kahapon po may naibigay na po yung (mga) barangay and the provincial government din po nagbigay na din. Ngayon po meron kaming naka-schedule na coming from DSWD, magdi-distribute din ngayon," said Cherry Mae Alvaro, Head of MDRRMO Uson, Masbate.

To address the recurring flooding incidents, authorities are expediting the completion of a flood control project in the areas affected.

Meanwhile, in the province of Sorsogon, similar challenges are faced in Bulan. Barangays Aquino and San Isidro in Bulan bear the brunt of floods, prompting residents to navigate through waist-deep waters in the streets.

"Tuloy-tuloy ang ulan tapos tiningnan po namin yung ilog kung gaano (kataas), tapos bigla po siya tumaas, tapos yun na po lumaki na po yung baha po," said Jenny Gaton, a resident of Brgy. San Isidro.

In Bulan, 13 families from Barangay Managanaga and 45 families from Barangay Juban have been evacuated due to rising floodwaters, highlighting the need for continued vigilance during the persistent inclement weather.
