A four-year-old girl was run over in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City. It was reported that a retired police officer drove the vehicle that ran over the child.
The child was by the roadside in Salvador Extension, Barangay Labangon to urinate past 6 p.m. on April 12, 2025.
The child, identified as Naizah Ayrin Alpida told reportedly her elder sibling she would get out of the house. The elder sibling reminded reportedly the child not to urinate by the roadside as the road is expected to be busy by that hour.
However, after a few minutes, the attention of the child’s mother was called out as Naizah was ran over by a vehicle that sped away.
The mother said that barangay officials helped her trace the vehicle. They were able to track down the driver, a retired police officer who is also a resident of the said barangay.
The retired cop reportedly denied at first. But morning on April 12, 2025, GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak chanced upon retired Police Senior Inspector Nacario Catalino at the funeral homes where the body of the four-year-old girl was taken.
He showed up at the funeral homes to settle amicably with the family of the victim.
The family agreed to the settlement, provided that the retired policeman fulfill his promise, including the transport of the girl’s body to Ayungon town in the Province of Negros Oriental for the interment.
Dinady Nogueras, the mother, requested that the child be provided with a “decent coffin.”
Catalino confirmed of the signing of an agreement by both parties, but did not give further details anymore.
Naizah’s father, Jessie Alpida, could not help from weeping. He said Naizah, the younger of his two children, is a sweet girl and that he would miss terribly the girl’s sweet, gentle ways.
