The drug test done among personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at Dumangas District Jail in the Province of Iloilo proved negative. However, the authorities are awaiting results of a drug test performed among personnel of the regional office where a jail officer in Dumangas town was accused as "source" of illegal drugs.
The BJMP employee with the rank of Jail Officer 1 is accused of supplying illegal drugs to a couple arrested in a recent drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Balantang, Jaro District, Iloilo City.
The haul of illegal drugs during the operation reached over P2 million.
The investigation is set to culminate by the end of the second week of April 2025.
“Our investigation team, guma-gather sila ng evidence right now upang ma-establish ang probable cause against the personnel,” JSInsp. Juniven Rey Umadhay, BJMP VI spokesperson, said.
According to Umadhay, the accusation hurled at the jail officer is serious, and carries heavy penalty if proven guilty.
Part of the investigation is the suspicious avoidance of the jail officer to past drug tests, as well as his lifestyle.
“Right now, lahat nang allegations, informations [information] na dumarating sa amin, actually those informations [information] nakarating na sa aming investigation division,” Umadhay added.
As of this writing, the jail officer remains in restrictive status at the BJMP Regional Office.
The investigation also revealed that the jail officer has a sibling incarcerated at the Barotac Viejo District Jail for a case involving illegal drugs.
