The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 7 disclosed that the explosive eruption of Mount Kanlaon early morning on April 8, 2025 did not affect areas in the Province of Negros Oriental.

OCD 7 said that since the 4,000-meter-tall plume drifted southwest to west, no ashfall was recorded in barangays of Canlaon City.

However, according to OCD Central Visayas Regional Director Joel Erestain, Alert Level 3  remains hoisted over Canlaon City since December 9, 2024.

Alert Level 3 means intensified unrest or magmatic unrest. Evacuees are prohibited from returning to their  residences within the 6-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone (PDZ).

Based on data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7, at 8 a.m. on April 8, 2025, a total of 838 families or 2,643 individuals sought shelter at eight evacuation centers.

After the December 9, 2024 eruption, families placed under forced evacuation reached 6,828 families or 23,620 individuals.

According to Erestain, the number of evacuees has reduced because several families decided to either live with their relatives outside of the 6-kilometer radius or in Canlaon City’s adjacent towns and cities.

Meanwhile, based on data from the City Social Welfare and Development Office and DSWD at 8 a.m. on April 8, 2025, a total of 1,022 families or 3,284 individuals have remained in Barangays Lumapao, Pula, Masulog, Malaiba, and Linothangan.

The said areas are located within the 6-kilometer radius.

As of this writing, there is ample supply of family food packs and face masks in Canlaon City, while a water filtration has already been mounted.
