With Holy Week just around the corner, prices of vegetables in Mangaldan, Pangasinan have gone up slightly.

Vendors at Mangaldan Public Market said it is a usual trend every time Holy Week approaches.

“Mataas na ang presyo kasi mag Holy Week na, nagtaka nga ang mga bumibili pero mataas talaga kasi,” Eduardo Pedralvez, a vegetable vendor, said.

As of April 8, 2025, the current prices of vegetables stands at:

  • Potatoes: P50–P70 per kilo
  • Cucumber, wombok, and Benguet beans: P80 per kilo
  • Sayote and tomatoes: P20 per kilo
  • Eggplant and squash: P40 per kilo
  • Ampalaya and sitaw: P60 per kilo

Shoppers say they already expected the price surge.

“Mahal na kasi talaga kapag ganito,” Jennifer Lalas, a costumer, said.

Despite the price increase, farmers from Benguet say the supply of highland vegetables remains stable.

“Maraming nakapila na gulay doon sa mga farmers doon sa pilahan ng mga gulay,” Rex Luis, President of the La Trinidad Vegetable Farmers and Traders Association, said.
