Traffic enforcers in Dagupan City and Calasiao, Pangasinan are getting relief from the scorching sun through the "Buddy System."
This strategy allows them to take turns directing traffic and resting in shaded areas to prevent heat exhaustion.
In Dagupan City, Renato Reyes, a Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) enforcer, manages traffic under the intense heat in Barangay Lucao, a busy area near a mall.
"Iinom ng tubig. Kung hindi masyadong ma-traffic, gigilid saglit," he said.
Dagupan POSO has deployed 40 enforcers on the roads from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
By 10 a.m., when the sun is at its peak, another 40 enforcers step in to implement the buddy system.
"Para sa tanghali, may ka-partner sila. Halimbawa, mainit, nakasilong ‘yung isa, nagkakalsada ‘yung isa," Deputy Chief Rexon De Vera said.
In Calasiao, traffic enforcers like Alvin Rocero also endure long hours under the sun. He works from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and follows safety measures.
"Sumisilong po, umiinom ng tubig," he said.
The Calasiao POSO advises enforcers to monitor their condition and rest when needed.
"Kung alam nilang mainit, binibilin namin sa kanila na gumilid," Deputy Chief Bernard Mejia said.
To protect high-risk enforcers, those with hypertension are not deployed in open areas without shade.
