A 27-year-old man in Cagayan de Oro City was arrested for allegedly blackmailing his ex-girlfriend.

His threat: He would spread their private videos online if she would not get back with him.

The woman sought the help of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-Northern Mindanao (RACU-10) and the agency launched an entrapment operation at a motel where the man wanted to meet with the victim.

Police seized the suspect’s cellphone, which contained the private videos.

“Pagduol sa atong pulis, diha gyud mismo nakita niya nga naka-open mismo ang cellphone sa suspetsado nga nga naa mismo ang video… naka play gyud siya, mao man iyang panghulga sa biktima: kung di ka moanhi ako ni ikalat,” RACU-10 Assistant Regional Chief, Lt. Col. Rey Vincent Magto, said.

Investigators also found out that the private videos have already been forwarded to some of the suspect’s friends.

RACU-10 has started checking if the videos have been uploaded online, including on pornographic sites.

The suspect was taken into police custody and will face multiple charges.

“Ato siya pagakasuhan violation of RA 9995 mao kini ang Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act usa pa ang violation of RA9262 mao kini ang VAWC also ang RA11313 mao kini ang Safe Space Act o ang ginatawag nga Anti-Bastos Law all in relation to section 6 of RA10175 ang Cyber Crime Prevention Act,” Magto added.
