A man fell in an entrapment operation in the Province of Iloilo for alleged extortion of a former girlfriend.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Iloilo Provincial Field Unit (CIDG IPFU) arrested 36-year-old alias “John" because of an alleged attempt to extort his ex-girlfriend.
“Abogadong iyong pinili, kung hindi mo makayanang magbayad sa serbisyo ng abogado, ang gobyerno ang magbibigay nito sa iyo,” the authorities were heard reading out loud the Miranda rights during the apprehension.
The operation was conducted in Barangay Apologista, Sara town at about 4 p.m. on April 1, 2025.
It was learned that the suspect is a resident of Concepcion town, Iloilo.
The entrapment operation stemmed from a complaint filed by 36-year-old alias “Angel” of Jaro District, Iloilo City.
“Umiiyak lang siya. Parang may urge talaga siya na ganito, wala na akong malapitan, CIDG,” Lt. Marlon Ayson, assistant provincial chief of CIDG IPFU, said.
Based on the victim’s statement to the CIDG, the suspect has refused to break up with her.
She said that the suspect threatened to release publicly her sensitive pictures and their intimate videos if she continues to evade him.
She added that the suspect threatened he would commit self-harm.
Further, she said, the suspect asked money from her worth P20,000.
The victim also said that a post of the suspect is deemed scandalous.
She pointed out that the suspect posted her picture on social media and had the school of her child tagged in the said post.
Moreover, it was learned that the arrest of the suspect went smoothly.
“Nakita ko sa reaksyon ng subject person natin ang pagsisisi, ang lahat-lahat. Cooperative naman siya, tumulo lang ang kanyang luha,” Ayson said.
The suspect was taken into the custody of CIDG IPFU.
Charges for violation of the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, and Article 286 of the Revised Penal Code for grave coercion and extortion are set to be filed against him.
