Personnel of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC)-Iloilo City inspected classrooms at Hibao-an Integrated School in Mandurriao District that would be used as voting precincts in the May 2025 midterm elections.
The inspection morning on April 2, 2025 also saw the COMELEC personnel posting a voters list.
Jonathan Sayno, assistant election officer of COMELEC-Iloilo City, encouraged voters to check their precincts this early.
“Huwag na nating hintayin na sa araw ng eleksyon pa maghahanap ng ating presinto dahil dagsa ang mga botante sa araw na yun,” Sayno said.
As classes are going on, as of this writing, voters are advised to visit the school at lunchtime and from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
During the school break, the school will be opened to voters anytime.
As of this posting, the school vowed it is ready to cater to inquiries.
“Binisita na kami dito ng personnel from Iloilo City Hall. Sini-secure rin nila ang availability ng electricity during the election,” said Alex Vergoli, physical facilities coordinator of Hibao-an Integrated School.
Meanwhile, upon entry at the gate of the barangay hall in Zone 10, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, a huge tarpaulin of a local candidate is visible. An official of the barangay did not comment on the illegal campaign material when GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas inquired.
In Barangay Concepcion, campaign posters are visible on the wall of a barangay hall but no official can provide an explanation on campaign materials placed in non-COMELEC designated common poster areas.
COMELEC Negros Island Region (NIR) stressed that the presence of campaign paraphernalia in, on, and at government structures, such as barangay halls, is illegal.
“Bawal gamitin yung barangay hall, yung gym kasi government property yun. It is abuse of state resources,” COMELEC NIR Director, Atty. Lionel Marco Castillano emphasized.
COMELEC NIR has ordered the removal of the illegal campaign materials. Barangay officials proven to have defied the order may face charges for violation of election laws.
The public is urged to report violations of similar nature.
“Pwede kayong mag-report sa COMELEC office, picturan niyo. Rest assured, we will make action on that,” Castillano vowed.
