A policeman was accused of poisoning a gamecock in a coliseum in the Municipality of Leganes, Province of Iloilo.

According to the Leganes Police, they responded to a complaint filed by the owner of the gamefowl in the alleged poisoning evening on March 29, 2025.

The policeman was identified as Patrolman Ginel Camacho.

“Siya po yung pabalik-balik sa kulungan ng manok na kini-claim na allegedly na nilason. Siya lang po ang na-pinpoint ng mga tao do'n,” said Captain Enrique Robles, chief of Leganes Municipal Police Station.

The Leganes Police reviewed a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the coliseum and Camacho was seen to have thrown something stealthily at the gamecock believed to be poison.

“Napansin niya, unusual na kini-claim niya na nahilo daw po. So most probably na nilason ang manok niya,” Robles said.

According to the supervisor of the coliseum, the owners and handlers are tasked to watch over their gamefowls. Once they get to the gate, they go straight to the cockhouse.

However, the alleged poisoning happened in the open area. The owner of the gamecock left the area to have a smoke when the incident happened.

“May mga nagbabantay diyan. Sila dapat ang responsable sa kanilang manok kasi lahat ng tao hindi natin alam ang kilos nila, kung may gagawin silang masama o wala,” Raymond Dequito, supervisor of the Leganes coliseum, said.

The complaint has already reached the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), and an investigation on the incident was launched.

Camacho, a resident of Anilao town in Iloilo, is assigned at the Iloilo City Police Station 7.

“Maituturing na misconduct ito ng personnel na nandun sa loob na allegedly walang lehitimong operation na kaugnay sa kanyang trabaho. Kung ang purpose niya is magsabong or mag-engage sa gambling, ang panindigan ni city director ay zero tolerance tayo,” according to Major Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPO spokesperson.

An administrative case will be filed against Camacho, Sangrines added.

GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to seek a comment from Camacho, but it was learned that he is preoccupied with the preparation of his affidavit.

Meanwhile, police disclosed that the complainant has already settled his concern with Camacho.
