The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has started checking campaign materials in Dagupan City to see if they adhere to rules set by the commission.

COMELEC officials documented oversized posters and materials that lacked information on who paid for or donated them.

"We are documenting oversized, walang notice kung sino ang nagbayad at kung sino ang nag-donate," Dagupan City Election Officer Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento said.

Candidates found violating campaign rules will receive a notice instructing them to remove the materials within three days.

If they fail to comply, COMELEC will take the materials down and may file complaints.

“’Pag hindi tinanggal, COMELEC po ang magbabaklas. Then, susunod na ‘yung pagpa-file ng complaint,” Sarmiento said.

Meanwhile, the Dagupan City Police and COMELEC assured strict security for candidates ahead of the May midterm elections.

“As of today, walang natatanggap na threats sa buhay ng mga kandidato. However, in advance, ginagawa na natin mga security measures,” PLTCOL. Brendon Palisoc, chief of Dagupan City Police Station, said.

The PNP continues its “Oplan Katok” campaign against illegal firearms to ensure a peaceful election. While no candidate has requested security detail, authorities remain prepared.

COMELEC said although Dagupan is under the "yellow category" due to intense political rivalry, they have not monitored any reports of “guns and goons” in the city.

Officials expect the elections to remain orderly and peaceful.
