Police have identified at least four people who may have a hand in the killing of an election officer and her husband in Maguindanao del Norte.

Brigadier General Romeo Macapaz, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), said the special investigation task group (SITG) is now pursuing the persons of interest.

Datu Odin Sinsuat election officer, Atty. Maceda Lidasan Abo, was heading to work with her husband, Jojo, when they were ambushed by armed men in Barangay Makir around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

The victims were rushed to the hospital, but Jojo was declared dead on arrival. Atty. Abo died a few hours later.

Authorities are looking into Atty. Abo’s work as possible motive behind the ambush.

Meanwhile, PRO-BAR has deployed an additional 180 police officers to strengthen security in the town.

Authorities are now awaiting the official decision of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on whether to place the town under COMELEC control in the upcoming elections.
