Tension erupted as members and former employees of Agdao Cooperative attacked the coop’s head office in Barrio Obrero, Davao City.
A video captured several men breaking the glass door and throwing the signage at the entrance.
According to some employees of the cooperative, several members forced their way in and went to the general manager’s office.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said the cooperative is reportedly experiencing a management crisis.
Policer officers were deployed to provide security.
Authorities said those who entered forcibly failed to present documents justifying their actions.
“I asked the station commander to check the truthfulness or veracity of the particular documents, wala naman silang maipakita. That’s bordering to violation of public safety already,” DCPO Director, Col. Hansel Marantan, said.
The tension only subsided after negotiations between the lawyers of the parties involved.
Police urged all parties to settle the issue through legal means.
“It should be settled legally. Now, I am calling the members of the Agdao Coop, you bring your case to proper authorities for legal dispersal,” Marantan added.
In a statement, the coop management claimed that the attack was allegedly led by former employees who were terminated or went AWOL (absent without official leave).
The management added that an ongoing case before the Court of Appeals acknowledges the current management and board of directors through a writ of preliminary injunction.
“We kindly ask everyone to respect the law and refrain from being swayed by emotions,” reads part of the statement.
GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to those who attacked the coop’s office for a statement, as of this writing.
