An alleged leader of a criminal group considered as one of the most wanted persons in the Philippines was killed after he allegedly fought back against authorities in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

Police identified the suspect as alias “Abay,” alleged leader of the Repolyo criminal gang also known as the Madanlo criminal group.

The suspect has at least 16 arrest warrants for murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder.

According to the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11), the suspect opened fire after sensing the presence of the operating team, prompting the police to return fire.

The suspect was hit in the chest and was rushed to the hospital. However, he died a few hours later.

Investigators recovered a caliber .45 pistol, fired shells, ammunition, a motorcycle, and the suspect’s belongings from the crime scene.

“The PNP is unwavering in its resolve to protect our communities by pursuing and neutralizing valuable criminal targets. This operation sends a clear message that law enforcement is in charge and that offenders will be held responsible for their acts.” Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office director, Col. Julius Silagan, said.
