One day to the start of the campaign period for local candidates, campaign posters have not been removed from government structures in a few barangays in Iloilo City.
The barangay hall of General Hughes is among these government structures.
According to Barangay General Hughes Chairman Ranie Palomo, the tarpaulins have long been posted but that they have mulled already on the removal before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) starts its "Operation Baklas."
“Ang nakalagay dyan na poster kukunin namin kasi bukas na ang deadline namin sa COMELEC,” Palomo said.
Other streamers are posted at landmark street signs and at a barangay health center.
Iloilo City COMELEC said they have already notified the Liga ng mga Barangay and local candidates to remove campaign posters from government structures.
COMELEC will activate its nationwide "Operation Baklas" on the first day of the official campaign period on March 28, 2025.
“Ang ating presumption dyan, nag-abuse ka ng state resources. Ginamit mo ang barangay hall or public place na nilagyan ng campaign materials which is bawal,” said Atty. Pinky Jevini Tentativa, Iloilo City COMELEC election officer.
