Two men were arrested in separate operations in Iligan City and Bukidnon for allegedly blackmailing victims with explicit videos and photos.
Police arrested a 21-year-old man after he allegedly threatened a Grade 7 student that he would upload her explicit photos online if she refused to meet with him.
According to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-Northern Mindanao (RACU-10), the suspect reportedly obtained the victim’s explicit photos by accessing the social media accounts of her friend.
He then used these photos to blackmail her into complying with his demands.
“Wala silay relasyon kani laging trend karon online nga atong mga kabatan-unan nga free will kayo sila magpadala sa ilang mga photos ug videos nga medyo sexual in nature ang iya ato kay naa lagi kuno nag-offer nga mupalit. So sa diha lagi nga aiming to earn something so nagpadala siya,” RACU-10 Deputy Chief, Lt. Col. Ray Vincent Magto, said.
The suspect will face charges for alleged violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act and Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man in Iligan City was also arrested after he allegedly threatened his ex-girlfriend that he would spread their intimate videos online if she would not meet with him.
Even before the scheduled meet-up, the suspect allegedly uploaded his ex-girlfriend’s nude photos on social media.
“Umabot sila sa punto nga si girlfriend nagdumili na nga ipadayun ang ilang relasyon pero on the part kay boyfriend wala siya makadawat muna mao kini ang iyang gigamit nga panghulga,” Magto said.
Authorities recovered the evidence from the suspect’s cellphone.
The suspect will face multiple charges for alleged violation of the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse of Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act, Cybercrime Prevention Act, and Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act.
