A businessman who allegedly financed the robbery of a pawnshop in Davao City was killed in an ambush in Valencia City, Bukidnon.
The victim was identified as alias “Takyo,” a sub-contractor for a telecommunications company.
Police said the victim was driving his sports utility vehicle (SUV) when he was ambushed by the suspects on board another car inside a subdivision. He died on the spot.
“Sa crime scene, narecover ang 24 empty pieces empty shells sa caliber nga gigamit sa pagpatay sa iyaha,” Bukidnon Police Provincial Office (PPO) Spokesperson, Major Jayvee Babaan, said.
Upon checking the victim’s background, investigators found out that the victim has been wanted for several charges.
“We have found out na itong biktima pala is may previous case pa sa Ozamiz City. So may kaso siya sa firearms, RA 10591, may kaso siya sa drugs, RA 9165, so active itong mga warrant na ito,” Babaan added.
Authorities also learned that the victim was allegedly a member of the Tolentino criminal gang and had served as the financier in the robbery-holdup of a pawnshop in Davao City in February 2025.
Police are investigating the incident to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the killing.
“We don’t know yet kung nagka-onsehan sila ng kagrupo niya or part of the (motive) is retaliation. We will conduct further (investigation). Aside sa investigation, we’re also conducting intel-driven operation, makuha nato ang ubang posible nga involved and suspect sa pagpatay sa kanya,” Babaan said.
