The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has launched an investigation into a police mobile that made a u-turn in a restricted area in Bajada, Davao City.
In a video footage posted online, the mobile of the Bajada Police Station is seen making a u-turn despite a clear sign that prohibits drivers from doing so.
DCPO chief, Col. Hansel Marantan, has ordered the station commander to look into the incident and take appropriate action.
Police personnel involved may face sanctions if found that there was no justifiable reason for violating the traffic rules.
Marantan reminded all personnel that adhering to traffic rules is a fundamental responsibility of law enforcers.
“As officers of the law, we are expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline and integrity by strictly adhering to traffic regulations. A U-turn in a restricted area should only be executed in cases of emergency or situations requiring immediate police intervention,” Marantan said.
He added that police officers should set an example by obeying traffic laws.
“Upholding traffic laws not only strengthens public trust but also reinforces the credibility of law enforcement in Davao City. Let us continue to embody professionalism, accountability, and discipline in every action we take,” Marantan added.
DCPO added that if the person who recorded the video was driving at that time, he or she may also face charges under the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (RA 10913) for using a mobile phone while on the road.
Violators of RA 10913 will be fined P5,000 for the first offense; P10,000 for the second offense; and P15,000 for the third offense, including a three-month suspension of the driver’s license.
