Security plans have been put in place for prayer rallies to mark the 80th birthday of former President Rodrigo Duterte in Davao on March 28, 2025.
Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) said thousands of Duterte supporters are expected to join the rallies across the region.
In Davao City, organizers are already preparing the venue for the rally “Rody at 80: Global Filipino Solidarity” on Roxas Avenue.
Similar rallies will also take place in other areas in the region.
“Kung marami, meron naman tayong standby forces… yung mga na-deploy na uniformed personnel, meron din namang covert security preparations na walang magsa-sabotage during sa rally na magiging safe and secure ang mga participants sa rally,” PRO-11 Spokesperson, Major Catherine Dela Rey, said.
PRO-11 urged the organizers and participants to coordinate with authorities regarding security concerns for the upcoming event.
“First, sa organizers, kung meron silang security concerns, ipaabot agad sa respective chief of police or station commanders kung asa ilang rally aron naa’y proper coordination. 4:48 Sa mga participants, kung naa’y maglabay nga sakyanan o mga tao nga di sila gusto mag-attend sa rally, dili lang pud pugson. Peacefully lang i-conduct o isinggit kung unsa ilang gusto ipaabot,” Dela Rey added.
Filipino communities in other countries will also hold prayer rallies on Duterte’s birthday.
Duterte is currently in The Hague, Netherlands, facing crimes against humanity charges before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
